Why Night Photography ???

Why Night Photography ???

Dont you just hate it when you come back home and want to see your pictures you toke in your camera or camera phone and you realised the pictures you toke are really really bad. thats what happened to me more then 1,000,000 time. so i started to do my home work, it turned out that there is a way called “Night Photography”

How does it work

Its quite simple, the camera takes a picture in a split second so the picture comes out dark ugly and not nice, so to fix that you have two options :

Option A use a flash, which everyone does, i hate this option the picture comes out horrible and makes the person looks like you just caught him rubbing something, like this..

Raccoon in the dark small

Yep allot of my friends take lousy pictures like this, that makes a person look like this little guy on the left. dont get me wrong its your chose but i really dont want to go blind from the flash plus look like a Raccoon in the dark.

Then there is Option B, now before i talk about option B let me explain something, the camera function is very simple the lens open let in light to make the picture, Soooo if you dont have allot of light around you need to give the camera a chance to gather more light to make a better picture “Now i explain Option B”. The camera needs more light to make a picture so what you do is simply let more light go in the camera by telling the camera to slowly make the lens open and close which is called “Slow Shutter speed” instead of taking a fast Shutter speed. some time the camera takes 1 second 2 second and other times 30 second other time even more…. As long as the picture turns out great i really dont care how long i want a nice picture. Like this

King Fahad RoadYep i definitely like this option more.

So whats the positive side

Well overall much nicer pictures, you can take pictures in very Dark places of course keep in mind the darker the location the more time light needs to go into the camera. and another positive thing is you dont need a FLASH which makes the picture way more nicer.

notice in the picture above, i toke this picture at night located on a high way in Riyadh, you cant recognise the cars that are driving cause basically when you take a “slow shutter speed” i mean making the lens open and close very slow, the cars go fast and the camera manages to catch only there light, giving this picture a nice touch.

Ok now the Negative side

Well i dont think of it Negative per say, lets just say extra steeps to create a great picture. you need two things, first Not to shake the camera, i use a tripod

tripod

Trust me its really worth it. if you have a DSLR camera go for it, you need to buy one NOW…

And if your using the Camera in your phone you either put your Camera phone on a steady surface or buy a Camera Phone tripod. but you need not to shake your camera.

Second thing to keep in mind is to turn off that damn Flash, no need flash at all.

Third thing to keep in mind is to have little light, i mean you cant take night photography when its peach dark totally, you need to have just a some light so it can go into the camera to make the picture.

Ok Ok Can i do this with every camera

Well most cameras these days you can, of course all DSLR camera has this function either go into the “M mode” or ” Bulb mode” i usually  use ‘AV mode” i well talk about that in another blog later. Regarding camera in your phone some have this function, look it up you might find it in phone camera option.
